Due to continued growth, Savage is currently seeking an Operations Manager in Muscatine, Iowa. The position will be responsible for leading a specialized team in planning, organizing and managing one of our rail operations, ensuring railcar switching and product loading in a safe and efficient manner. Key areas of experience will be: conducting frequent efficiency tests and observations to ensure 100% compliance with established work processes and procedures. In addition, this leader will participate in budget preparation, management of profit and loss, and daily communication with customers and railroads on scheduling and other issues to ensure a smooth and safe operation.
Duties:Duties and Responsibilities will consist of:
- Possesses experience and knowledge with;
o Locomotive switching operations
o Product loading operations
- Provide “Best Value No Worry” service to the customer on every shift every day.
- Learn, implement, teach, and execute the S7 Operating System
- Ability to build strong relationships with the customer contacts
- Ability to understand the customer contract and rate structure
- Have the ability to understand and utilize daily financials
- Ability to develop and execute a business plan (including budgeting, projecting, variance analysis, and cost management)
- Hands on, hard working, self starter
- In-depth knowledge of locomotive operations
- Must be able to work outdoors in various climates for 12 hour shifts
- Must have the ability to walk long distances on uneven surfaces
- Ability to hire right, train right, treat right all team members
- Must have leadership skills to ensure team members follow procedures at all times even when no one is watching
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to promote a safety culture where each employee has the value and attitude that unsafe behaviors and conditions will not happen on their shift
- Committed to teaching and promoting personal responsibility for identifying and performing safe behaviors, conditions, and environmental responsibility

Qualifications:Qualified candidates will possess:
• 5+ years experience working in Management in a rail related industry
• Hands-on experience in railcar switching and/or transloading operation
• Knowledge of local, state and federal requirements
