Duties:- Receive train operating dispatches from the Railroad and ensure such authority is understood and adhered to by other team members
- Communicate with other train crew members, the railroad and chemical plant employees by radio, signals or by other means to give and receive train operation information and aid in the movement and operation of trains
- Prepare necessary paperwork associated with the movement of the rail cars
- Become an active participant in the Safety program including involvement in routine safety meetings
- Willing to do any and all tasks that require attention
- Learn new skills that will help you perform job safer, better and more efficiently
- Understand and adhere to rail rules and regulations as prescribed by Savage, our customer and the Railroad

Qualifications: Skills and Abilities: - Rail Switchman in the Blair, NE area.
- Experience as a switchman is preferred but not required
- Experience in a similar industrial environment is preferred
- Understands the importance of customer service and able to professionally deliver service to the customer
- Strong communication and listening skills including the ability to read, write and understand English and able to follow written and/or verbal instructions
- A solid and reliable team player
- Willing to help anything else that requires attention, as directed by the Operation Manager
- Works safely at all times including the willingness to wear required PPE;
- Must follow all rules and procedures as outlined by Savage.

Physical and Environmental Issues:
Switchmen will work outdoors everyday and as a result will be exposed to the elements. Engineers must be physically able to:
- Climb in and out of the equipment
- Ascend and descend ladders and steps and should not have a fear of heights.
- They should also have the ability to use basic hand tools.
- Must be able to lift 80 lbs.
- Must be able to climb on and off railcars and locomotives
- Must be able to walk on ballast/uneven ground for up to 12 hours/day
- Must be willing to work 12 hour rotating shifts
- Must be able to pass Basic Contractor, back ground, and random drug tests
- Must be able to pass Plant's site requirement test
- Must be customer focused
